Review Iris Works Studio Management Software

Systems for Photography

I was sitting under an avalanche of sticky notes and partially used notebooks. I knew I had an important call today. However, somewhere between responding to a customer complaint and spending three hours on the phone with my credit card processor the exact meeting time slipped through my neurons and splashed into a puddle of soup at the base of my brain.

I was managing three businesses (too many by the way).   Managing them all with three Gmail accounts, 15 email addresses, four notebooks (the paper kind), and a rainbow of sticky notes. The sneaking suspicion I was already too late churned in my stomach as I flipped through the purple notebook trying to remember if I wrote down the phone number before or after my notes on next month’s social media strategy. For some reason the voice of Mr. Ralston,  my middle school teacher,  was on a loop in my head saying, “Organization is the key to success,” over and over and over….

The Breaking Point

That early afternoon wasn’t the first time this scenario happened. Luckily, something snapped and it was the last.  I somehow beat the “but” voice.  You know the one I’m talking about.

But! I don’t have time to research a better way of doing business. I can hardly keep track of stuff now.

Really? How much more time would you have if you weren’t sifting through a billion sticky notes each day?

But! I don’t have time to learn a new system. That takes a ton of time.

Yes it does. Once the system is in place though you will free up hours

BUT! I love my art. Can’t I just focus on that!?

Yes, full time if you aren’t suffocating under a pile of notebooks from your desk.

So why am I telling you this?

We don’t sponsor affiliate products often here at the Shoppe. But when Meredith Graddle approached me a few weeks ago with information on her studio management software I was intrigued.  Creating systems in your business is probably the most valuable tool for saving time and money. If her product could bring that kind of value to our customers I figured  I had to try it out.  So I took her up on her offer and logged into the software to see what it was all about.

Iris Works Features

The integration and tools were pretty amazing. I have evaluated a lot of business management software and I really wish something like this had been around back when I was sitting under that pile of notebooks. It was pretty apparent as soon as I saw the dashboard that this software was created by a photographer for photographers.

The Dashboard is a clean minimalist design that gives you an overview of everything from your schedule to the weather. All of the dally information is in one place which is priceless if you are used to juggling multiple calendars.

Another priceless feather is the client portal. The client portal is split between current clients (which you can segment for mailings and promotions) and prospects. Never lose track of new prospects or forget to send out a client email again.

Probably one of my favorite features of the software is the workflow checklist. Iris Studio comes with workflow templates and you can create your own.

Need to shoot a wedding? Assign the wedding workflow to your client. The software takes the date and creates a daily checklist leading up to and after the event. Each task is added to you schedule so you don’t miss a thing!

  • There are a ton of other features that makes this software a photographers dream.
  • Automated messages
  • Customer Questioners
  • Invoicing and billing
  • Contracts and documents
  • Customer photo galleries – for an additional fee customers can review and download photos

Everything is customizable!
